I never wanted a United Airlines credit card, until now.

I am a big fan of collecting. transferable points and milesas Pursue ultimate rewards needles, Capital One miles and Citi Thank You Rewards needles. I love the flexibility of choosing when and where to transfer my rewards, especially when issuers offer juicy transfer bonuses.

Although I do have a few airline-branded credit cards, like the underrated Aeroplan® Credit Card (see rates and fees), I have not been so interested in locking myself in one airline loyalty program.

I am not a regular United Airlines flyer and the United Mileage Plus The program is not my default. Star Alliance program, in part because I don’t live near a United center. Therefore, request a united credit card and investing in the MileagePlus program has never been at the top of my list…until now.

In addition to the benefits of this card, the United Quest℠ Card (see rates and fees) is currently offering a fantastic welcome bonus. For the first time, I now want a United brand credit card.

Here’s why.

United Quest Card Welcome Offer

New candidates for United Mission Card You can earn 80,000 bonus miles and 3,000 Premier qualifying points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first three months of account opening. Based on TPG February 2026 ratingsbonus miles are worth $1,200.

This generous welcome bonus of 80,000 United miles is one you could easily use for great value (more on that in a moment).

don’t have United Premier (or any Star Alliance) elite statusso 3,000 PQP in my account would be a big plus to qualify for Premier Silver status (a total of 6,000 PQP or 5,000 PQP plus 15 Premier qualifying flights are needed to secure Silver status).

Note that to qualify for United status, you must take four United or United Express flights, even if you meet the PQP threshold.

This card also earns up to 18,000 PQP per calendar year (1 PQP for every $20 spent on purchases can be applied toward your Premier status qualification, up to Premier 1K level).

Premier Silver has several benefits, such as bonus miles and access to Economy Plus seats at check-in.

The benefits really take it up a notch when you reach Premier Gold status, as members also qualify for Star Alliance Gold membership. For example, since I fly regularly with Star Alliance airlines, I could enjoy access to over 1,000 lounges around the world before a Star Alliance flight.

Since Premier Gold status requires 12,000 PQP or 10,000 PQP plus 30 PQF, you’d be a fraction of the way there.

Bonus miles for adding a United Card authorized user

My husband is not as obsessed with earning points and miles as I am, so he is not interested in applying for his own card, navigating his own accounts and redemption strategy.

Instead, I would prefer to be a authorized user in my letters. I can manage the earn and redeem strategy, and we can both enjoy the benefits, like a luxury vacation.

He United Mission Card The card offers 10,000 bonus miles if you add an authorized user to your account in the first three months after account opening.

Not only is this an easy way to maximize card earnings through daily spending, but it also adds 10,000 miles to my account.

Credits to offset the annual fee

I expected a card with an 80,000-mile welcome bonus to have a high annual fee. He United Mission Card instead, it features a mid-range annual fee of $350, similar to the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Cardwith which new cardholders will be able to accumulate 75,000 bonus miles after spending $4,000 on purchases during the first three months from account opening.

Still, if I pay a $350 annual fee, I’m looking for real value from the card beyond the one-time welcome bonus. I’m impressed to see that even without taking into account the value of the miles earned, this card still has many ways to offset the fee each year:

  • $200 credit: After account opening and each anniversary year, cardholders will receive $200 in cash from United TravelBank.
  • Up to 20,000 miles in discounts on award flights: Automatically earn a 10,000 mile discount for each cardholder anniversary (starting with your first anniversary). You can then get another 10,000 mile discount after spending $20,000 in a calendar year.
  • Hotel credit: Receive up to $150 in credits for Recognized Hotels and Resorts.
  • Airline credit: Receive up to $150 in JSX credits.
  • Car rental credit: Receive up to $40 each in cash from United TravelBank for your first two Avis or Budget car rentals booked through United Cars each account anniversary year.
  • Rideshare Credit: Receive up to $8 in monthly statement credits for ride-hailing services, plus a $4 bonus (for a total of $12) in December (annual subscription required).
  • Seat updates: Earn two global Economy Plus upgrades after you spend $40,000 on purchases with your card each calendar year.
  • Instacart Credit: Receive a $10 monthly Instacart credit and a $5 monthly Instacart credit, plus a complimentary three-month Instacart+ membership (ends December 31, 2027).
  • Global Entry/TSA PreCheck Credit: Receive up to $120 in credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck every four years.
  • Onboard purchases: Receive 25% back on United inflight purchases (includes Wi-Fi, food and beverages).

Even with a weekend away, I see myself easily recouping the cost of the annual fee as follows:

  • Book a $200 round-trip flight on United or United Express to use United TravelBank Cash Credit
  • Receive 25% back on United inflight purchases by paying with the card
  • Stay at a Renowned Hotels and Resorts property in my destination and pay with the card to use the hotel credit of (up to) $150
  • Book an Avis or Budget car rental at my destination to receive (up to) $40 in cash from United TravelBank

Free checked baggage on United

I don’t fly United very often, but if I book a United or United Express flight with this card, my travel companion and I receive our first and second checked bag for free.

Since United increased their checked bag fees up to $40 for the first bag and $50 for the second, the benefit of this card can save me money.

MileagePlus miles are more valuable and easier to use than you think

Since United retired their award charts and switched to dynamic pricing, I’ve been careful with transfer my Chase Ultimate Rewards points to MileagePlus, fearing that there would not be good redemption opportunities.

However, since I spend hours a week looking for good points and miles offersI have noticed that MileagePlus continues to offer great award rates and availability. I’ve found many flights to the United States starting at just 5,000 miles plus $5.60 in fees and taxes.

I am especially pleased with this summer’s. Polaris Business Class Award availability to Europe for only 88,000 miles. There are hundreds of flights you can book for this price from various United hubs to Switzerland, Italy, Ireland, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands, among other destinations. I hope I won’t have any trouble finding an 88,000 mile flight to Europe this summer.

This card is not perfect

United Economy Plus Boeing 737 MAX 9
KYLE OLSEN/THE POINTS GUY

While this card has many attractive features, I wouldn’t say it’s perfect. Given the average annual fee, I’d love to see a couple of single-use products. United Club Lounge Passes added each year, which would make that annual fee recovery weekend I mentioned above even more enjoyable.

I consider the 10,000 mile award flight discount for spending $20,000 on the card in a calendar year to be like earning an extra 0.5 miles for every dollar spent on the first $20,000. Since I can earn a lot best multipliers in most categories On my transferable credit cards, this is not a feature I’m likely to use.

There are also two upgrade certificates for Economy Plus after you spend $40,000 or more with the card in a calendar year. Since Economy Plus is just a standard economy seat with extra legroom, this is an exceptionally weak benefit for spending so much on the card for an entire year. If the benefit were an improvement to Premium Plus, United’s premium economic offerI might consider it. However, I’m not going to spend $40,000 on a card just to get a seat with more legroom.

Since Chase issues this card, you must also keep the 5/24 rule in mind.

In a nutshell

I never thought I would consider a United brand credit card as it has never been a program on my radar. I am very happy with the Star Alliance partner. Air Canada airplane program, even redeeming Aeroplan points to fly with United in the past.

With the United Mission Card offers a lucrative welcome bonus, I’m tempted to apply for it.
