Last August, after months in advanceAlaska Airlines announced the Atmos™ Rewards Summit Visa Infinite® Credit Card – and its debut caused quite a stir in the credit card world.
Yes, it had some of the advantages you would expect to find in any co-branded airline premium credit cardlike free checked baggage for you and up to six guests on the same booking when you pay for your flight with your card, priority boarding, and some degree of lounge access. But it also had a number of innovative benefits that made it our clear pick for Best New Personal Credit Card in the World. TPG Awards 2026.
As a resident of Portland, Oregon, and a frequent Alaska Airlines flyer, I quickly added the card to my own rotation. But you don’t have to live near the centers of Alaska’s Pacific Northwest or even fly regularly with the airline to get substantial value. In fact, many of my fellow TPG staffers spread across the country, including several based in New York and Florida, which are about as far away as you can get in the lower 48 states, applied.
Here’s a look at the features that set this card apart from the competition last year and made adding it to our wallets a no-brainer.

Profit rates
He Atmos Rewards Summit has some solid win rates, including a notable multiplier on international purchases that quickly caught the attention of many TPG employees. Cardholders Earn:
- 3 points per dollar spent on Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines purchases
- 3 points per dollar spent on eligible restaurant purchases
- 3 points per dollar spent on foreign transactions
- 1 point per dollar spent on all other purchases
You’ll also earn a 10% rewards bonus on all points earned on card purchases if you have an eligible Bank of America account.
The foreign transaction fee makes the card the best option for foreign purchases, and if you spend a significant amount of time (or money) outside the country, it’s a reason to apply for it in its own right. Shortly after getting the card, I took my family to Portugal and racked up tons of points on purchases that normally only earn 1 point per dollar, including baby items, boat tour tickets, and souvenir bottles of port.

The 3 points per dollar spent on eligible restaurant purchases is another nice feature, considering how valuable they are. Alaska Airlines Atmos Rewards Points are, and how difficult it has previously been to earn them through credit card spending. TPG values them at 1.5 cents per point, according to our February 2026 report. ratingsmeaning you’ll earn a 4.5% return on every dollar spent on dining.
Global Companion Awards
As for benefits, the card’s Global Companion Awards steal the show. Each anniversary, cardholders receive a prize of 25,000 points and can earn a second prize worth 100,000 points after spending $60,000 or more on purchases each anniversary year.
The annual benefit discounts the award price for a second person traveling on an itinerary with Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines or a partner airline, and applies to tickets in any cabin class. For example, if you want to travel one-way from Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) to Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) in business class with American Airlines, a member of the Oneworld alliance, a ticket costs 55,000 Atmos Rewards points. The primary traveler would pay that amount, while the companion’s flight, after applying the 25,000-point award, would cost 30,000 points for a total of 85,000 points (plus taxes and fees) for a one-way flight.
In economy class, where a ticket for the lead traveler only costs 27,500 points, the grand total of two tickets would be only 30,000 points (plus taxes and fees).

Improve elite status
If securing elite status is on your vision board this year, you can’t do better than the Atmos Rewards Summit. Not only does the card offer 10,000 status points for each card anniversary — a tally that will put you halfway to Atmos Rewards Silver status — but it also includes a spending-based status fast track.
Cardholders earn 1 unlimited status point for every $2 spent on the card, marking the fastest path to status available on any airline credit card. By investing $20,000 in the Summit, you will secure Atmos Rewards Silver status (equivalent to Ruby of a world status), and spending $60,000 will earn you Atmos Rewards Gold status (equivalent to Oneworld Sapphire status).
Other travel benefits (for a reasonable fee)
Like other premium travel cards, the Atmos Rewards Summit offers a number of additional benefits that help offset its $395 annual fee, which by today’s standards is lower for a premium product.
Many of them can help make the travel experience smoother and more comfortable, including:
- Eight Alaska Airlines lounge passes per year (two per calendar quarter)
- A free checked bag for you and up to six guests on the same reservation when you pay for your flight with your card
- Preferential boarding
- Share free points
- Same-day confirmed fee waiver
- A $50 instant voucher for cancellations or departure delays of more than 2 hours
- Waiver of booking fees on partner award redemptions
Those waived partner award booking fees alone can really add up, with rates starting at $12.50 per person each way. By booking round-trip award flights with a partner for a family of three like mine, I’ll save at least $75.

Alaska Airlines revolutionized the airline card market in the best possible way with the Visa Atmos Rewards Summit. The card’s unique foreign transaction bonus category and suite of innovative benefits set it apart from other premium cards and airline co-branded cards on the market, along the way earning it the award for Best New Personal Credit Card at the TPG Awards.
