But getting an appointment can be a bit easier.
“The average time to register has really decreased in all areas,” Matt Davies, executive director of CBP for admissibility and passenger programs told TPG.
How to request global entry
Travelers requesting global entry must go through a process of several steps.
First, they are applied online through CBP trusted traveler programs panel. In 2019, CBP saw a record of 3.2 million people to join their trusted traveler programs, which include services that accelerate trips between the United States and Canada and/or Mexico (but most applications were for the global entrance).
Last year, 4.5 million travelers requested those programs.
And this year, CBP tells TPG that it is in pace to see at least 4.2 million more.

Historically, CBP has published new sections of interview dating on the first Monday of the month at 9 am local time, so configure a reminder on your phone to verify if there is a slot at that time.

Another wave that comes?
Looking towards the future, CBP anticipates another global entry application wave, specifically for renovations.
After the historical records for the program between 2021 and 2025, a wave of travelers never seen before will probably seek to return to membership in the coming years, since memberships are executed in a five -year cycle.
Fortunately, renovations these days are often a much more fluid process than an application for the first time, they often do not require an interview in person.
