in the time of Chase 5/24Once-in-a-lifetime bonuses, the same “card family” restrictions, and more, it can be difficult for families to decide what their next travel credit card will be.
But one card has remained near the top of the list since its introduction in 2018: the World of Hyatt Credit Card.
Families may appreciate Hyatt’s range of properties (especially the kid-friendly resorts), rewards chart, and the ability to increase their World of Hyatt account balances by transferring points of Chase Ultimate Rewards Cards.
Here are the reasons why the World of Hyatt Credit Card It is ideal for family travelers.
Earn five additional free night certificates
The World of Hyatt Card currently offers five Tier 1-4 free night award certificates after you spend $4,000 on purchases within the first three months of account opening.
In the past, the card offered additional World of Hyatt points as a welcome bonus, which TPG currently valued at 1.7 cents per dollar.
Earn two more award nights, plus Elite status
In addition to the five additional award nights, the World of Hyatt credit card comes with a Category 1-4 award each year you renew. Plus, you can earn a second 1-4 reward night with $15,000 in card spending in one membership year.
With an average of just $1,250 spent on the card each month to reach that annual spending total, it’s a pretty fair deal to earn a second award night.
The card also provides automatic Discoverist status, which, frankly, isn’t that exciting (aside from the ability to match with M Life). But the card makes it easy to jump up to more valuable higher elite status tiers.

Top-tier Hyatt Globalist status requires 60 eligible nights in a calendar year, but you can reduce that number fairly quickly if you’re a heavy World of Hyatt card user.
You could aim to spend $15,000 on the card each year to earn the additional Category 1-4 prize. That spend alone would also give you a total of 11 nights qualifying for Hyatt status, leaving you with just 49 nights to earn Globalist status.
For those not yet familiar, World of Hyatt Globalist status unlocks perks for traveling families, including:
- Waived resort fees
- Club lounge access
- Complimentary suite upgrades based on space available
- Confirmed suite upgrade certificates
- Free breakfast included for two adults and two children at locations without a club lounge
- Late check-out at 4 pm and waived parking fees when redeeming rewards
It’s fair to say that Hyatt Globalist status is one of the best elite hotels out there for families.
Earn up to 9 points per dollar
Lastly, the World of Hyatt Credit Card is the best card for Hyatt spending. Offers 4 points per dollar earned on Hyatt stays and experiences, including at participating restaurants and spas within Hyatt properties. This is in addition to the up to 5 base points per dollar that World of Hyatt members can earn with this card.
It’s also good for other expenses, like gym memberships, where the card awards 2 Hyatt points for every dollar earned. In addition to gyms and fitness clubs, you’ll also earn 2 points per dollar on local transportation and transportation charges, including ride-sharing services.
Who can apply for the World of Hyatt credit card?
If you want the World of Hyatt credit card, be sure to read the fine print. In addition to being less than 5/24, the terms of the World of Hyatt credit card state that the product is not available to current holders of any Hyatt credit card; It is also not available to previous holders of any Hyatt credit card who have received a new member bonus in the last 24 months.
This means you cannot have an open Hyatt credit card or have received a Hyatt card bonus in the last two years. If you have an old Hyatt credit card and don’t want to go through the process of closing it and applying for this new card, talk to Chase about upgrading your current Hyatt card to this one. This will allow you to keep your account number and history.
However, you won’t be able to get the cardholder bonus by simply upgrading your old Hyatt card to this one. There are sometimes Hyatt upgrade offers available for specific customers, but they’re usually around 5,000 points, a far cry from five free nights.
In a nutshell
Families are in a great position to make the most of the World of Hyatt credit card. You can expand your earnings on select categories, like Hyatt stays and gym memberships. Most importantly, it will make it easier for them to earn Hyatt Globalist status again when they start working toward that travel goal.
