Delta Air Lines is adding a new route that pairs well with a side of cheese.
The Atlanta-based airline just joined the Wave of airlines adding service to California wine country via Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport (STS) in Santa Rosa.
Over the weekend, Delta unveiled plans to launch nonstop service to STS from its hub at Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC).
The new flights, first seen on Cirium and confirmed by an airline spokesperson, will launch on October 6.
It will be an entirely new airport for the airline, giving SkyMiles loyalists a new and convenient link to Sonoma and Napa wineries, not to mention an additional airport in California’s Bay Area.

This is the latest in a wave of new flights to Sonoma County’s small airport.

In just the last few months, Southwest Airlines has service launched from STSand Alaska Airlines has reinforced its flight offer there.
Now, Delta is flying into the city.
In all, the airport’s total departures this year will increase nearly 40% over last year, according to data from aviation analytics firm Cirium. And this despite the fact that the low-cost airline Avelo Airlines leaving Sonoma last summer.
STS is located in the heart of Sonoma County wine country and is located about an hour’s drive from downtown Napa (although many of the most popular Napa vineyards in the North Valley are much closer).
And compared to larger Bay Area hubs like San Francisco International Airport (SFO), travelers can enjoy a much smaller, quieter airport experience at STS. Additionally, they will have much less chance of encountering traffic once they leave the terminal.
Flight details
Delta will operate its Salt Lake City to Santa Rosa route with a Delta Connection Embraer 175 regional jet, which features 12 First Class recliners and 20 Comfort seats with additional legroom in front of the main cabin.
