Bahamasair is considering a request for new aircraft that could grow its fleet and expand the non -scales flight opportunities to the island nation.
“The main plane we are seeing is the Airbus [A]220, “Tracy Cooper, CEO of Bahamasair, said Monday at the Routes Americas conference in Nassau, Bahamas.
The airline is considering an order of eight to 10 planes that would replace its four aging of Boeing 737-700: the plane varies from 18 to 21 years, data of the Flightradar24 shows and their fleet grows.
An order, Cooper continued, could be presented this year depending on the availability of capital for new aircraft.

The A220 “gives us opportunities to do things that we are currently doing: that plane can easily fly to the maximum [breadth] from the United States and take us well in Latin America, “Cooper said.
According to Airbus, the A220-300 can fly around 3,900 miles with a standard design of two kinds of 120 to 150 seats. That is beyond the existing 737 of Bahamasair and the rank of the main competitor of the A220, the Embraer E195-E2, which can fly around 3,000 miles with a standard unique class design of only 132 seats.
The 737-700 of Bahamaasair have more than 140 seats. The airline also has a fleet of five turbopropulsors at that it uses mainly for national flights in the Bahamas.
The programming data of the Cirium Aviation Analysis Firm show that the carrier serves four USAs in the USA: Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood (FLL), Miami International Airport (MIA), Orlando International Airport (Orlando International Airport ( MCO) and Palm Beach International Airport (GDP) in West Palm Beach, Florida. It also flies to Cap-Haitien, Haiti; Havana; Montego Bay, Jamaica; and providential in the Turkish and Caicos Islands.

The A220 is a popular plane with airlines and passengers equally. Developed by Bombardier in the 2010s before being bought by Airbus, the JET has half of intermediate seats than its largest competitors, the Airbus A320 and the Boeing 737, thanks to its 2-3 configuration in economics. It also benefits from the latest in motor technology, so it is more efficient in fuel than the oldest models and, as Cooper mentioned, has a range capable of transcontinental flights in North America.

Bahamaasair has his eyes first in Latin America with his next plane. The A220 would allow non -scales flights from the Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau (NAS) to airports in Colombia, Mexico and Panama, in other words, Latin American centers, Cooper said. From there, Bahamasair would seek to associate with the main Latin airlines to feed people on their flights.
“The intention is really to obtain [visitors] In Bahamaasair and in beds in hotels here in the Bahamas, “he said.
Bahamaasair is the property of the Bahamas government.
