The tickets will go on sale on July 28, with the JFK-Lax 777 service scheduled to launch on October 5.
777 returns to JFK for domestic service
For American, it is a slightly unusual movement. Fort Worth headquarters, based in Texas, has a very limited schedule of wide body airplanes on national routes, which generally reserve their larger aircraft for the international long distance service (and Hawaii).
It currently does not have a regularly programmed transcontinental service in JFK twin aircraft. That will change in October with the arrival of its 777 of three cabins on the route.
What is behind the turn?
It is a bit complicated, but the short response is that the popular Airbus A321T of four cabins will temporarily replace.

Replacement of the A321T (for now)
As TPG has reported for years, American is making big changes in its premium transcontinental service.
The A321T has generally been its reference plane for those main flights through countries, with its high content configuration Boke first and his business class pods.

However, American is eliminating the A321T, turning those planes into standard A321 designs, to give way to its new Airbus A321XLRS, which will feature the new flagship suites of the bearer with sliding privacy doors.
But, there is a dilemma: Airbus is staying behind the deliveries of XLR, and American has not yet received any of those planes.
However, some of the A321ts must also maintain heavy maintenance and reconfiguration. Therefore, the airline plans to continue eliminating the “T” configuration, with or without the XLR, and 777 will help fill the void on a domestic route that attracts a significant interest in the premium seats.
