There is an incredible offer right now for luck. American Airlines AAdvantage Elite Members that have upgrade certificates to use. You can get confirmation in business class using a system-wide upgrade certificate if you book premium economy on almost any US flight, but you’ll need to act quickly. This incredible offer expires at midnight on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.
“American is making it easier for our most loyal customers to use system-wide updates,” a company spokesperson told TPG. “We know that system-wide upgrades are a valuable member-chosen loyalty point reward and availability varies, so we’re excited to offer this to our AAdvantage members.”
There are a few additional things to keep in mind with this promotion.
- You must travel in August 2026.
- The upgrades are available on flights to and from Asia, Australia, Europe and South America, but exclude flights to Delhi, Doha, Shanghai and Tel Aviv.
- Paid rates only. The promotion does not apply to mileage award tickets.
- Business class seats must be available for sale, but it does not matter what type of business class fare is available; It may be discounted inventory.
- As mentioned above, you must book and request the upgrade before midnight tomorrow night.

I have AAdvantage Executive Platinum status and some expired upgrade certificates. I needed to find a return flight from Europe in August.
Here is an example from my own searches. I found a one-way premium economy flight from Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) for $1,557, with plenty of business class seats available for purchase.
If I book that flight, I can call American and request one of my expiring system-wide upgrade awards, which should clear within three business days and well before they expire on March 31, 2026.
