Hilton will open his first property of Waldorf Astoria in Finland at the end of this year, marking the introduction of the luxury brand to northern Europe.
The new Waldorf Astoria Helsinki will open in what is currently The María Hotel After a brand change of historical luxury property, Hilton shared with TPG. From now on, the Maria Hotel is part of the Prefered Hotels & Resorts collection ‘The Legend.
“The Finnish capital has seen a growing demand for travel in recent years, and we hope to meet an even broader range of travelers’ needs when opening our fourth property in the city,” said Patrick Fitzgibbon, Senior Vice President of Hilton Development for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, in a statement shared with TPG. “As we are about 300 luxury hotels in [Europe, the Middle East and Africa]It is fantastic to have signed the first in the Nordics. “
Currently, the Maria Hotel has 117 rooms (including 38 suites), each with natural light wood and a palette of relaxing colors of taupes and creams. The property also has a Nordic inspiration spa with a traditional Finnish sauna, along with a bar in the place and a restaurant that celebrates the Nordic heritage.
The hotel is located in the lovely district of Kruununhaka in the city and is a short distance from the main places of interest in Helsinki, including the old market hall of the nineteenth century and the beautiful park of the city of Esplanadi.
It was not clear immediately when the hotel will change to Waldorf Astoria, but it is not expected to close during the transition period.

The current room rates at the Hotel Maria begin at $ 416 per night, according to a search on the hotel website, although the price after brand change to the Waldorf Astoria Helsinki is still uncertain.
In addition to Helsinki, Waldorf Astoria operates properties in France, Italy, Germany and the Netherlands. Hilton also operates three other hotels in the Helsinki area: Hilton Helsinki Strand, Hilton Helsinki airport and Hilton Helsinki Kalastajatorppa.
