Marriott Lifetime Status: What It Is and How to Get It

You don’t have to be a frequent traveler to get higher levels of Marriott Bonvoy However, the mood is very important. Marriott Lifetime Status Requirements

Currently, members can earn the following three lifetime levels of Marriott status:

While these Marriott lifetime status levels may seem out of reach, credit card credits and promotional elite nights do count toward lifetime status. So, you may find it relatively easy to earn lifetime status, especially if you have one or more Marriott Bonvoy Credit Cards which provide elite night credits annually.

For example, TPG Senior Writer Katie Genter has Silver Elite status for life. But with eight years as a Gold Elite or above and 353 lifetime nights, she will earn Gold Elite status for life after staying 47 more nights. Since Katie has the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless® Credit Card and American Express® Marriott Bonvoy Business® CardYou receive 30 Elite Night Credits as a benefit from these cards each year. So you should earn Gold Elite status for life in 2025 after staying 17 more nights with Marriott.

Benefits of Lifetime Marriott Elite Status

Once you earn Marriott Lifetime Status, you’ll enjoy the benefits of that level for the rest of your life. Below are some of the highlights of each of the three levels you can currently earn for life:

  • Silver Elite: 10% Points Bonus and Priority Late Check-Out
  • Golden Elite: 25% points bonus and upgrades on non-suite rooms (select brands)
  • Platinum Elite: 50% points bonus, room upgrades (including suites at most brands), and a welcome gift option (at most brands; breakfast is an option at some brands)

If you have Marriott lifetime status, your points will not expire. In late 2022, Marriott also introduced the ability for lifetime Platinum Elite members to see their points. lifelong journey online and request complimentary luggage tags.

How to Check Your Marriott Lifetime Status Progress

The Marriott app is the easiest way to see your progress toward Marriott Lifetime Status. Open the app and follow these steps:

  1. Select “Account” in the bottom right corner
  2. Click on “Nights of this year”
  3. Select “View Life Status Progress”

The page that loads should show your current lifetime status with Marriott (if you have one) and your progress toward the next lifetime level.

As you can see from the screenshots above of Katie’s account, she should reach lifetime Gold Elite status in 2025. However, she won’t reach lifetime Platinum Elite status until 2029 at the earliest, as she currently only has five years as a Platinum Elite member. Assuming she accumulates 50 Elite Night Credits each year until then, she’ll be on track to earn lifetime Platinum Elite status by the end of 2029.

In summary

Earning Marriott lifetime status requires running a marathon, not a sprint. However, Marriott adjusted its lifetime status program in 2018 when it merged with Starwood. So keep in mind that Marriott may change the requirements for earning lifetime status before you reach your desired level.

Aside from the Platinum Elite Lifetime Membership dashboard, you won’t get any additional benefits as a lifetime member compared to members who earn status each year by accumulating Elite night credits. You also won’t be able to enjoy Marriott Choice benefits, which are only available once you accumulate at least 50 Elite night credits during the calendar year.
