It is difficult to know when a loyalty program that uses dynamic prizes prices changes the way prices award the nights. But it seems that IHG has increased, or perhaps, eliminated, prize price limits for many of its most aspirational properties without springs. I also suspect that IHG may have changed its algorithm to give lower redemption rates in some aspiring and high occupation stays, but this is more difficult to determine without having access to an extensive data set.
Depending on how you use your IHG points, April 4 changes may not be negative for you. Since April 4, I have reserved some IHG awards stays to slightly better reimbursement rates than I had been obtaining in recent months. And since I do not plan to redeem more than 60,000 IHG points for any stay, use Hilton Free Night Certificates And Hyatt’s points when they reserve careful stay stays: the increase in IHG awards limits will not personally harm me.
