The majority associates the American Express Platinum® Card with luxury and high-end benefits. After all, the card is known for its lounge access, elite status offers at hotels, and access to valuable transfer partners.
However, the card’s Walmart+ statement credit* of up to $155 per calendar year doesn’t fit neatly into Platinum’s prestigious reputation. That means it’s overlooked by many current and potential cardholders.
Not using Amex Platinum Walmart+ statement credit may mean missing out on save money every month. Here’s what you need to know about this benefit to decide if it’s worth using.
What is Walmart+?
Walmart+ offers a variety of benefits for a monthly fee of $12.95 per month (plus local sales tax). Most of these benefits focus on shopping at Walmart, but some focus on partner brands.
In 2021, the Amex Platinum began offering cardholders monthly statement credits of up to $12.95 (plus local sales tax) toward a Walmart+* membership. That means you can receive a Walmart+ membership at no additional out-of-pocket cost.
*Registration required; subject to automatic renewal. Plus-Ups are excluded; Statement credit only applies to a monthly membership.

Walmart+ Benefits
There are multiple benefits for Walmart+ members to take advantage of. These can come in handy when shopping at Walmart and some can even be used outside the store. Here is a list:
- Car care benefits like free flat tire repair and a free road hazard warranty when you purchase new tires with installation. This benefit is available at Walmart’s 2,500 auto care centers.
- Free next-day and two-day shipping on Walmart.com items, with no minimum spend required.
- Free grocery delivery at your local Walmart store on orders of $35 or more. It’s important to note that if you don’t have a Walmart store nearby, you won’t be able to take advantage of in-store delivery.
- Free Burger King Whopper with any purchase every three months, as well as 25% off Burger King every day at participating locations.
- Save on fuel, with up to 10 cents off per gallon at Exxon, Mobil, Sam’s Club, Murphy and Walmart gas stations.
- Free online pet care through Pawp, with unlimited 24/7 telehealth access for your pet.
- Option to make returns from home without printing a label or repackaging.
- Subscription to the Paramount+ Essential plan either a subscription to Peacock Premium.
- Access to Pluto TV for ad-free streaming.
- Walmart Cash incentive when you book through W+ Travel (powered by Expedia). Earn up to 5% Walmart Cash on hotels, flights, car rentals and tours when you use W+ Travel to book.

Walmart+ members will also receive exclusive offers. In the past, we’ve seen a three-month trial of Apple News+, a five-month trial of Apple Arcade, 25% off four months of Hallmark+, six months of free SiriusXM, $20 off live events booked through Tickets For Less, and $10 in Walmart Cash when you book bus or train travel tickets through Busbud.
In addition to these benefits, Walmart+ members can also use their phones to scan items in the store and pay for them contactlessly.

How to get Walmart+ with Amex Platinum
To get started, navigate to the “Benefits” tab of your Amex Platinum online account or go directly to this Walmart home page.
From here, click “Get Started” and follow a series of prompts to sign up for a Walmart+ subscription. You must also create a Walmart account if you don’t already have one.
You will then be asked to enter your payment information. You must pay with your Amex Platinum to receive your $12.95 monthly statement credit.
Important note: Make sure you opt for the monthly plan, as you will not receive a statement credit for the annual plan.
Once you have completed these steps, you should be all set. Monitor your account to make sure your statement credit is posting, and contact Amex customer service if you don’t see it after a few weeks.

In a nutshell
While it may not scream luxury, the Amex Platinum Walmart+ benefit can provide significant value. This is especially true if you’re a fan of the included partner brands, like Peacock and Burger King.
Yo I didn’t expect This benefit was worth a lot when I first opened my Platinum card, but I was quickly proven wrong. Assuming you shop at Walmart at least once a month and have a subscription to Peacock or Paramount+, you should be able to get positive value from this benefit.
