New price matching feature now available on some Chase Travel accounts

One of the frustrations with hotel credits that come with some premium credit cards It’s that the savings aren’t always truly felt dollar for dollar, as the credit card issuer’s travel portal may not show the lowest hotel rates available.

In other words, even if you’re using valuable hotel credit from one of your credit cards, paying a higher nightly rate through the booking portal can make the savings seem less significant.

But now there may be good news for cardholders with the Reserve Chase Sapphire for Business℠ (see rates and fees) and Chase Sapphire Reserve® (see rates and fees), as we recently spotted a price matching feature on some Chase Travel℠ accounts.

This could allow cardholders to use Chase Travel benefits and statement credits without worrying if they are overpaying for the hotel just to use the card’s benefits and credit.

How does the price match guarantee work?

If you have Price Match on your Chase account and book a prepaid hotel stay through Chase Travel and then find a lower price (greater than a $5 difference) elsewhere within 24 hours of booking, you can submit a price match claim within that 24-hour period.

“Chase Travel recently introduced the Price Match Guarantee, currently in beta for Sapphire Reserve for Business, JP Morgan Reserve® and certain Sapphire Reserve cardholders. Cardholders included in this pilot who find a lower rate for a prepaid hotel booked through Chase Travel and meet the criteria, can file a claim within 24 hours and receive a refund for the price difference.”

Testing Chase Travel’s New Price Match Guarantee

To test the feature ourselves, TPG editor-in-chief Nick Ewen made the price match option appear on his Reserve Chase Sapphire for Business account and found a $50 lower rate directly with Hyatt for a two-night stay at the Park HyattChicago.

Since the Park Hyatt Chicago is a member of The Chase Travel Editionyou can apply one of your two annually Statement credits up to $250 toward a qualifying stay of two nights or more.

Within hours of submitting the Chase Price Match claim, you received an email confirming that the claim had been approved.

This was followed by an outstanding credit of $50 on your card account the next day, equal to the amount of the successful claim.

That means you set the lowest rate while still using your statement credit.

You will also receive the usual benefits that come with Edit reservationsincluding daily breakfast for two, a $100 property credit and more.

In a nutshell

A price matching feature may seem minor, but it could be a valuable addition for Chase Travel users.

If implemented more broadly, it would help cardholders feel more confident that they are getting access to the best hotel prices while maximizing the value of their Chase Travel benefits and statement credits.
