United Airlines will expand the premium cabin ‘with little time’

United Airlines is doubling the premium economy

In the coming years, travelers can expect to see the Premium Plus expansion of the Chicago headquarters, with more seats. And more opportunities for redemption.

Like its best American competitors, United plans to continue adding more high -end seats to its aircraft, from its Polaris suites to its first -class national reclining armchairs, not to mention the premium reclining armchairs that are in the middle of their long -distance aircraft.

Speaking about the company’s second quarter of the company on Thursday, the commercial director of United, Andrew Nocella, said the airline underestimated how much demand would see for its premium economy product. When he installed the middle level cabin From the end of the 2010.

“We subsiphe the premium plus cabin,” Nocella told analysts. “And that is a cabin, I think, that is generating very good returns, and the one that we will probably bow more in the future.”

An ‘very exciting’ opportunity

United First He debuted the seats as a Premium Plus Distents cabin in 2019. It is a way of offering a high -end experience than the coach, but at a price that is more affordable than its executive class of Polaris.

By 2023, the carrier had equipped his entire fleet of long -distance airplanes with the offer of intermediate premiums.

United Premium Passengers have access to some of the ornaments of the executive class, such as priority check-in and approach. On board, they get larger reclining (something that reminds the first national class) along with better meals and comforts than the main cabin.

Depending on the flight, cash and thousands are found somewhere between coach and polaris, sometimes halfway between the two cabins. However, it is not uncommon to see the premium more prices closer to the executive class than the economy.

A success with customers

Like other airlines that announced the products of the premium economy in recent years, United attracted an immense interest of customers at a time when travelers have gone to high -end seats.

Even so, Premium Plus (shown in purple on the seat map below) represents a fairly small section of the carrier’s aircraft. For example, in its Boeing 777-300er, the 24 reclinators add up to 7% of the seats on board.

Expanding this complement to premium seats, Nocella said, represents one of the greatest expansion opportunities before the airline in the coming years, among its cabins.

“Premium plus is, I think, a very exciting opportunity as a medium rank product,” he said Thursday.

An emphasis on the general premium

United is not alone. Almost all US airlines are more inclined in premium seats, including each of the carriers inherited from “three large” (also includes American Competitors American Airlines and Delta Air Lines).

Last week, Delta’s executives said the carrier plans to reassess their cabin designs in the coming years as a way to increase their general complement of high -end seats.

American has said he hopes to increase its combination of premium seats (business and premium economy) by 50% for the end of the decade.
