The transformation of the John F. Kennedy International Airport of New York City (JFK) continues to advance ahead. This week, the airport reached a substantial milestone when the new terminal 6 ended its curtain walls and locked the new terminal for the first time.
It is an important milestone, and the airport is on its way to celebrating a large inauguration next January, earlier.
TPG was one of the only two media that took a tour of the new terminal, which will be a big step forward for the infrastructure of the airport in Northeast.
We also take our first glance to a recently presented art installation that will greet passengers as they arrive at the airport. You can see how that spectacular mural will look at the Enlightenment below.

The New York Port Authority and New Jersey, which runs JFK, is in the middle of a $ 19 billion project to transform the airport. When ready, there will be several new terminals, as well as new roads and ramps to facilitate and from the airport.

JFK Millennium Partners gave TPG a tour of the new terminal 6 and told us how terminal 7 next door will finally be demolished. In its footprint, four other doors for the second phase of the project will become part of an extended terminal. The second phase is expected to open in 2028.
The new terminal will be a whopping 1.2 million square feet and will offer 10 new doors, several of which will be built to handle jets of wide body. You can have a good idea of the size of the space when you observe the new central center of the new terminal.

“This success supports other future milestones, including adding permanent energy and trying the building live,” said JFK Millennium Partners in a press release.
The press release continued: “More than 1,200 local workers are currently on the site to guarantee an opening without problems for more than a dozen carriers who will move to the new terminal, including: Aer lingus, Air Canada, Ana, Austria Airlines, Avianca, Brussels Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Frontier, Jetblue, Kuwait Airways, Lufhansa Atlantine, and Swiss, and Swiss.

From the outputs, passengers can expect the experience of digital guest of the new terminal, with a massive corridor full of light full of digital advertising fences and blonde wood accents.

The output area will have one of the longest output curbs in JFK, with passenger delivery areas with the airline brand.

Terminal 6 will have five airline rooms in the air, in addition to a arrivating room. JFK Millennium told me that there is still no confirmed airline to house the first arrivals at the JFK airport (so if you are an interested airline, there is still time to grab the space).
It is difficult to know in the photos below, but this is where Lufthansa is opening a new mass hall in terminal 6, which will have an entry dedicated through mechanical stairs. While we still don’t have all the details, we hope you include first class dedicated rooms, business class and senator of Lufthansa.

Aer lingus has also confirmed that it will have a Dedicated living room in terminal 6; It will be accessible through a stairs game that you can see in the photo below.
In the photo above, you can see that the left side is where you will walk towards terminal 5 once the construction is completed.
The new terminal will be connected both on the earth and in the air to the 5 adjacent terminal, which houses the JFK JFK Center of Jetblue Airways. By the time the project ends, you can come and go between terminals 5 and 6 to go shopping and even jump living room.

The luggage system is impressive. Start with drops of biometric bags in check-in. From there, the luggage is transported through a complex conveyor tape system and robot scanned.

Another thing to take into account about the project is its environmental approach. The terminal uses construction materials of sustainable origin, solar energy on the roof and energy efficiency systems and operational practices at all times. JFK Millennium Partners told me that it aims to have the Leed Silver or Gold certification for the project.

When it ends, the transformed terminal 6 will be a show for the view. From the dramatic skylights to the great huge room, the biometric projection and the bag fall to robotic luggage manipulators, this airport terminal will be a great revelation.
It could end up being one of the best terminals in the country’s airport, and will give the other LGA and Newark Liberty (EWR) international airport a true race for the best tri-state airport once everything is ready.
