Hamilton Island, one of Australia’s main destinations to access the great barrier barrier, is no stranger to the incredible hotels and resorts, from the imposing Reef View hotel to the Ultraluxurious George Clooney, and Julia Roberts, only for adults. But what was needed was something elegant, familiar And just because of the water.
Enter: The Sundayys, an elegant 59 -room boutique hotel with spacious and comfortable rooms; balconies and patios that look at impressive landscapes; a less luxury sense; And a restaurant with such simple and beautiful food, each meal left me with mourning eyes.
Here is a first glance of my two -night stay on Sundays, which opened in April and made our list of The most anticipated hotel openings of 2025.
First impressions
His stay on Sunday begins at his arrival at the adorable airport of Hamilton Island (HTI), where incredibly friendly staff (whom he will meet during his trip) hopes to collect their bags and deliver them directly to their room. The fast trip from the airport helps him to orient himself on the island, where the cars are few and the golf cars are many.
From the elegant outdoor lobby, you have an idea of the small property, located on the north side of Catseye Beach and in front of the dramatic and lush landscape of the passage of the passage. Returning to the 1980s, the building once served as an original hotel on the island, but has been completely renewed with soft tones that reflect the natural environment, such as the sea and the nearby reef. And with its outdoor feeling (the typical style of Queensland) and the almost retro environment, the place feels young, fresh and totally effortlessly.
The room
From the outdoor hall, I entered a large and bright room with a mostly neutral color palette, keeps some touches of color such as a green sneaker chair to a corner and a colorful and beautifully simple impression that represents the story of the island of the Australian and Hungarian indigenous artist Tiarna Herceg.

The King bed, placed in the middle of the room, looked towards the great balcony, which had views of water and the lush green landscapes in the distance. Hidden on the wall on the side of the room there was a great mobile television, which offered transmission services, as well as a wide selection of televisions and movies on request.

Behind the bed, a retractable wall separated the bathroom and a multifunctional closet and storage space. The interior was a massive bank for suitcases, drawers and a closet with peel and standard hotel services such as an iron, as well as some fun such as yoga mats and beach towels.

An independent soaking bathtub took the center of the bathroom in the bathroom, sitting in front of a dressing table with a well -lit mirror and hanging bath castes. The rain style shower provided excellent water pressure, but the proximity of the toilet to the shower area might not be the cup of tea of all.

I also appreciated a small kitchen space in the room that had a convenient coffee machine, a teapot, a variety of snacks and drinks for adults and children (read: heart children) and even a hidden microwave.
Like the rest of the hotel, the space was attractive, comfortable and relaxed. The finishes and details added a luxurious touch, but they were not exaggerated, and I immediately felt at home in my room and very sad to leave it.
Swapers on Sundays
In the resort of Hamilton Island, visitors can enjoy a variety of restaurants, from Southeast Asia snacks in Coca Chu to seafood joints, an Italian restaurant and even a barbecue dinner cruise. But nothing is compared to Catseye Pool Club, the new adventure on Sundays by the acclaimed chefs (and partners of life) Josh and Julie Niland, the duo behind Sydney’s San Pedro.

Catseye Pool Club It is an outdoor space with a view to the Bay of Catseye and the hotel pool, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Here, the nilands do what they do better: to serve the finest and cooler ingredients, but in a way that can be shared, truly fun to eat and, at least for me, a great reminder of how important good food and good company is. Every meal I enjoyed in Catseye Pool Club made me surprisingly emotional, cheerful and grateful for the generosity that this planet has to offer, from the first meal I had there: a salad so simple and bright that I could not stop thinking about it ($ 20).

For breakfast, both mornings of my stay, which is included in the rate, I asked for the incredibly delicious CPC breakfast, which consists of sesame avocado, cauliflower rice, a soft egg (I asked this instead of a hard egg, which was happy with the kitchen), crushes, tomato, kasundi and Beetroot, and Wattleseed Kraut. I also loved the super crispy hash cake and the exaggerated frozen banana whip, which was a giant bowl of the beaten banana ice cream, almost like ice cream, with raw granola and little cocoa.

The dinner at Catseye Pool Club was one that I will never forget. From fish and wild raw served with dashi soup made of grilled fish bones ($ 46) to deconstructed pizza bread ($ 41), fish tacos with experts in their own construction bite ($ 43) and incredibly tender and tasty chicken ($ 80), each bite was better than the last one.
Services and service
Exclusive on Sundays there is a beautiful pool that looks at the cove, yoga classes for dawn, film projections for the light of the family moon, an ice cream ice cream (with ice cream tokens that remain in your room every night in the start service) and DJ sessions in the pool on Sunday.
Hamilton island has a lot of comfort, activities and things to do too, which are shared between the various tourist centers and housing rentals. Here is a brief summary of some of them:
- Sports Club shared with teams, classes, spa and sauna
- Tennis courts
- Kids Club for children between six months and 12 years old
- Golf cart rentals to move around the island
- Wumurdaylin spa that offers several treatments and massages
- Hiking routes
- Navigation and fishing
- An arcade with games, a nine -pin golf and bowling simulator
- Go-Kart races
- A golf course on neighboring island (look for it from the plane!)
- Non -motorized aquatic sports and rents such as Paddle and Kayaks Tables standing
- Snorkel and diving in the great barrier of Arrecife
- On 60 Other activities
Note only: Many of these activities cost an additional rate.
Hamilton Island Wildlife Center
One of the most prominent aspects of my time on Hamilton Island was to visit the Wildlife Center of the Resort, about five minutes on Sundays.
The center offers a series of special animals meetings or simply a walk through the small park to see creatures such as crocodiles, koalas, walls (small kangaroos), a variety of birds and even some dingos. For around $ 22, you can get up and near an adorable Koala for a photograph.
Tour Tour – Experience in heart reefs
Visiting the great coral barrier is an experience that changes life. Fortunately, on Sundays and Hamilton island together offer an exclusive opportunity for helicopters on the iconic heart -shaped reef part, before landing in a pontón helipad just in the middle of the reef for snorkeling (the cost is approximately $ 900).

This experience was the highlight of my trip in Australia, and my 45 -minute snorkeling allowed me to discover everything I expected to reveal the great reef barrier, including beautiful clown fish, corals and bright fish in more colors, shapes and sizes of what I could have imagined. After returning to the Pontón, we literally celebrate “find Nemo” with a glass of champagne before the helicopter returned to Sundays.
Location and logistics
Hamilton Island has its own airport, the airport of Hamilton Island (HTI), which offers flights in Virgin Australia, Jetstar and Qantas to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
What costs to stay on Sundays and how to reserve
Cash rates on Sundays start at $ 572 per night. At the moment, The Sundayys is not integrated into a luxury reserve program, so it is better to reserve directly with the hotel.
Accessibility
On Sundays they offer accessible terrace rooms with access to wheelchairs, broad input cabinets, bathrooms with low rails and basins, accessories adjusted by height and polltant bed available at request.
As always, TPG recommends talking to the hotel directly before booking to better understand the hotel accessible offers.
End
The Sundayys is the first new hotel to open in Hamilton Island, a popular family vacation place for Australians, in almost 20 years. I can tell you firsthand, it was worth the wait. With a lovely room with beautiful views, an incredibly friendly staff and meals of a famous chef who will not forget soon (seriously, I will try to recreate that breakfast bowl every morning in the rest of my life), they took me with Sundays. In fact, I am already planning my return to the island to share that helicopter experience with my family so that I can see his eyes illuminated the first time they glimpse the great reef barrier.
