Six Senses continued its growth streak in the United States on Tuesday with the announcement of Six Senses RiverStone Estate, a wellness-focused resort slated to open in 2028 on a 1,200-acre property 60 miles north of Pittsburgh in Foxburg, Pennsylvania.
One can’t help but see this latest expansion of Six Senses as a sign that the brand’s parent company, IHG Hotels & Resorts, is eager to Expand its presence in the American ultra-luxury sector and the wellness-oriented luxury orbit, a space currently dominated by brands like Hyatt’s Miraval and Canyon Ranch.
Six Senses resorts and hotels around the world are known for embracing sustainability; the brand was one of the first to adopt the initiative of offering bath products in ornate dispensers in guest bathrooms. Instead of in small single-use bottles. These properties are also known for their wellness-oriented services through the Six Senses Spa network.
Six Senses RiverStone Estate looks to take health and wellness even further by offering more than 50 miles of trails and 7 miles of riverfront to explore at the confluence of the Allegheny and Clarion Rivers. The resort will be anchored by a historic three-story stone mansion and will see the addition of 77 guest rooms and 40 branded residences meant to offer a private country-house lifestyle. This is Six Senses, after all, so don’t expect this country-house lifestyle to be anything like “The Simple Life.”
“Beyond memories, guests want purpose and a more enriching experience from their stay,” Neil Jacobs, CEO of Six Senses, said in a statement. “We believe in the art, and often the science, of exceptional experiences rooted in emotional hospitality. Six Senses RiverStone Estate will offer an enchanting canvas for new layers of well-being.”
What to expect at Six Senses RiverStone Estate
The property’s historic 13,000-square-foot mansion (once a summer retreat for descendants of George Fox, the founder of the Quaker movement) and Victorian carriage house will be the centerpiece of Six Senses RiverStone Estate. Guest rooms and cottages will blend into the sprawling property and be located along the riverbanks or beneath the treetops. The developing Six Senses will also feature studios for an artist-in-residence program.
The 16,000-square-foot Six Senses spa will be located within the restored stone walls of the Fox family’s English garden. It will offer a mix of indoor and outdoor wellness classes, including pilates, stretching, yoga and meditation. A 4,500-square-foot fitness center will offer a combination of injury prevention and muscle recovery treatments along with mental focus and motivation techniques to enhance athletic performance.
Local produce and game will feature on the property’s various menus. Guests will find a specialty restaurant, tasting bars in a central courtyard, and abundant maple syrup produced from the more than 5,000 maple trees that dot the estate.
IHG’s continued expansion of luxury in the Americas
In recent years, IHG has acquired Six Senses and Regent to offer its loyalty program members more ultra-luxury options across its network, but American travelers have been waiting to experience either brand closer to home. They won’t be waiting much longer.
