New York City to Get a New Kimpton Near Rockefeller Center


When it comes to lifestyle hotels, few have as loyal a following as Kimpton. The brand is steeped in local flavor and on-trend design, and offers guests a true sense of belonging.

The brand’s hotels range from a modern property in Tokyo’s bustling Shinjuku district Still Royal residence in Londonas well as full-service resorts such as the Kimpton Seafire Grand Cayman.

New York City already has two Kimptons: the Events at the Kimpton Hotel in Chelsea and the Kimpton Hotel Theta in Times Square.

New York City will soon be home to a third Kimpton location, this time near Rockefeller Center in Midtown. It will be developed by Extell Development Company, which has a Powerful portfolio of hotel services which includes the Hard Rock Hotel New York and the W Hotel Times Square.

The Kimpton Rockefeller Center, which opens next year, will be a 33-story hotel designed by the New Yorker himself. SLCE ArchitectsSLCE is the architectural force behind some of the city’s other luxury hotel projects, including the Four Seasons New York Downtown, the Park Hyatt New York and the renovation that transformed the iconic Crown Building into They love New York.

The interiors will be designed by INC Architecture and Designwhose projects in New York City include 1 Brooklyn Bridge Hotel and the TWA Hotel at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), possibly one of the most recognizable hotels in the city, if not the world.

Like most Kimptons, the new Midtown location will feature multiple restaurants, a rooftop bar (which is sure to have incredible views of the skyscrapers, given its location on 48th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues), a lobby lounge, a fitness center, and common spaces for meetings and gatherings.

If all goes according to plan, the property “will be one of the premier hotels, with a robust food and beverage program, as well as iconic views of Rockefeller Center and the city skyline in one of New York City’s most visited neighborhoods,” said Elysa Goldman, senior vice president of development at Extell.

For points and miles fans, it will also offer another way to save on stays in a city that is often unreasonably expensive.
