Whether you’re stocking up on household staples or splurging on a new gadget, there are plenty of ways to Save on Amazon ordersThis includes a current deal involving both American Express and Amazon.
Select Amex cardholders can save money when they redeem American Express Membership Rewards points to cover at least a portion of an eligible Amazon purchase. Using Membership Rewards points for Amazon purchases is generally not a great deal, as the rate of return per point is lower than travel redemptions.
However, you can Save up to 40% on an Amazon purchase by redeeming as little as 1 Amex point with select current offers.
To take advantage of this offer, you will need a card that accumulates Membership Rewards points, such as The Platinum Card® from American Expresshe American Express® Gold Card or the American Express® Green Card.

Offers available when using Membership Rewards points to pay on Amazon
Not all Amex cardholders will be targeted by Amazon deals, so check your account. For example, at the time of publication, most of us at TPG saw offers to save 15% (up to $15), but at least one reporter saw an offer to save 40% (up to $40).
Please note that these are specific deals, so they will vary. In previous months, we’ve seen even better deals of up to 50% off (savings of up to $75). Hopefully, the bigger deals will interest you.

Third-party listings will not trigger any savings, but you may be able to take advantage of this offer if you purchase gift cards to restaurants or retail stores. How to save up to 50% by redeeming 1 Amex point
Here are the steps to convert 1 Amex Membership Rewards point into significant savings on Amazon:
- Check to see if you have a specific offer.
- Activate the offer in your Amazon account.
- Fill your shopping cart with eligible items sold by Amazon, not third parties. (Most types of gift cards have historically been considered.)
- We do not recommend paying for your entire purchase with points because it may not be the best use of your Membership Rewards points. Instead, use the smallest amount of points possible at checkout (as shown below). You will need to use a American Express that allows you to earn Membership Rewards points as a payment method.
Assuming everything works, you should see the offer reflected during checkout.
You’ll need to cover the remainder of your transaction with an Amex card, though you can also apply the balance from an Amazon gift card if one is associated with your account.

You may find similar offers with other rewards programs from time to time. For example, we’ve previously seen offers of 40% off (up to $20 max) when using Discover rewards on select Amazon purchases.
